Aristolochia

Aristolochia is a genus of perennial flowering plants that belong to the family Aristolochiaceae. The genus consists of over 500 species, which are distributed throughout the world, with the majority of species found in tropical regions. The plants are commonly known as pipevines or Dutchman’s pipes due to their unique flower shape, which resembles a smoking pipe.

Aristolochia plants are generally climbing vines or shrubs that can reach heights of up to 6 meters (20 feet). They have large, heart-shaped leaves that can be up to 30 centimeters (12 inches) in length. The flowers of Aristolochia plants are typically tubular in shape and have a distinctive, often intricate pattern. Aristolochia plants are known for their unusual pollination mechanisms. During this time, the insect picks up or deposits pollen, which helps to pollinate the plant.
