While the specific term “Black Sapote Giant Mutt” appears to be a slight typo or a highly localized name, you are most likely referring to the Matt’s Giant (also known as “El Grande”). This is one of the most famous “jumbo” varieties of Black Sapote (Diospyros nigra), the legendary “Chocolate Pudding Fruit.”
At Ivy Paradise, we specialize in these high-performance, large-fruiting selections. As the world’s largest online plant shop with over 15,000 species, we offer the authentic, grafted genetics needed to produce these massive fruits. Today, you can secure your own “Giant Pudding Tree” for Over 30% Off!
Why the ‘Matt’s Giant’ is the Ultimate Black Sapote ??✨
If you want the biggest and best “chocolate” harvest, the Matt’s Giant is the gold standard for home orchards.
-
Massive Proportions: While standard Black Sapotes are roughly the size of a tomato, the Matt’s Giant produces fruit weighing between 1.5 to 2.5 lbs (24–40 oz). A single fruit is often large enough to make two full loaves of “Black Sapote Bread.”
-
The “Chocolate Pudding” Experience: When fully ripe, the flesh is dark brown, silky, and slightly gelatinous. The flavor is a mild, honeyed sweetness with hints of caramel and dates. It is virtually fiberless and perfect for eating with a spoon.
-
Nearly Seedless: One of the most desirable traits of this variety is its low seed count, typically averaging only 0 to 3 seeds per fruit, compared to the 10+ seeds found in wild varieties.
-
Architectural Beauty: The tree is a stunning tropical evergreen with a broad, rounded canopy and distinct black bark. It can reach 25–40 feet in the ground but is easily maintained at 7–15 feet with pruning.
-
Vitamin C Powerhouse: Surprisingly, the Black Sapote contains up to four times the Vitamin C of an average orange!
Why Shop the Ivy Paradise Authority? ?
Sourcing an authentic Matt’s Giant is critical because seedlings are unpredictable. Ivy Paradise provides the security of a global leader:
-
Fast & Climate-Synced Shipping: We use specialized packaging to protect the sensitive new growth of your tree. Our fast shipping ensures your sapling arrives with its glossy, leathery leaves vibrant and hydrated.
-
15,000+ World-Class Varieties: Our scale allows us to provide verified, high-performance grafted genetics. A grafted Matt’s Giant can produce fruit in 3–4 years, whereas a seedling can take 7 years or more.
-
Elite Savings: Premium “Jumbo” grafts are rare and usually expensive. Take advantage of our 30% discount today and grow the most impressive fruit in your neighborhood for a fraction of the cost.
Cultivation & Care: Growing Your Giant ☀️?
The Matt’s Giant is a resilient tropical tree that loves humidity but is surprisingly adaptable.
| Requirement | Ideal Condition |
| Light | Full Sun (6–8 hours) is essential for fruit size and sweetness |
| Watering | High; prefers consistently moist soil; very tolerant of short flooding |
| Soil | Rich, well-draining sandy loam or loamy soil (pH 5.5–7.0) |
| Temperature | Tropical to Subtropical; mature trees handle dips to -2°C (28°F); protect young trees |
| Harvest | Pick when skin turns olive-green/dull; ripen on counter until soft as a balloon |
Pro-Tip: The secret to the best flavor is the “Squish Test.” Never eat a firm Black Sapote; it will be bitter. Wait until the fruit is so soft it feels like it might fall apart. At that moment, the pulp inside has transformed into perfect “pudding”!
A Living Dessert for Your Backyard ??
The Matt’s Giant Black Sapote is for the gardener who wants to grow a conversation piece that is as delicious as it is strange. Whether you are whisking the pulp with a little maple syrup and cacao for a healthy dessert or using it as a direct substitute for bananas in baking, this tree is a functional masterpiece.
Our stock of healthy, bud-grafted Matt’s Giant trees is moving rapidly. With our current 30% Off sale and our status as the world’s largest plant shop, these “Giant Pudding” trees won’t stay in the nursery for long. Secure yours today!
Ready to harvest your own 2-pound chocolate puddings? Would you like me to recommend a premium organic fruit-booster fertilizer or a large-capacity self-watering planter if you plan to keep your tree on a patio?
