Apple HRMN 99 is a hybrid apple cultivar that was developed by the Horticulture and Agroforestry Research Center at the University of Missouri in the United States.
This apple variety does not require chilling hours for flowering and fruit setting. He has become a source of inspiration for thousands of farmers and agriculturists of Bilaspur and other lower hill districts of the state, the areas which earlier could never dream of growing the apple fruits.
This variety is being cultivated in plain, tropical and subtropical regions across India, where temperature is often spiking to 40 to 45 degree Celsius.
Apple HRMN 99 is a deciduous tree that belongs to the Rosaceae family. It is a hybrid apple cultivar, which was developed by cross-breeding ‘Mutsu’ and ‘Jonathan’ apple varieties.
The tree is a moderate to vigorous grower, and it typically reaches a height of 12-15 feet at maturity with a spread of 10-12 feet. It has a spreading growth habit with an upright central leader and develops a dense canopy of green leaves during the growing season. The leaves of the tree are oval-shaped and have serrated edges.
Apple HRMN 99 is a late-season apple variety that requires approximately 130-140 days from bloom to harvest. It is usually harvested in late October or early November. The fruit is medium to large-sized, and it is typically round with a slightly flattened appearance. The skin of the apple is green-yellow with a red blush covering most of the fruit. The flesh is white, firm, and juicy, with a sweet, slightly tart flavor.
The tree requires well-drained soil with a pH range of 6.0-7.0 and requires full sun exposure to produce high-quality fruit. Apple HRMN 99 is a heavy and consistent bearer and has good resistance to common apple diseases such as fire blight and scab. The tree is also relatively cold-hardy and can withstand temperatures as low as -20°F.
